I was born Horst Josef Wallner, in Piesendorf, Austria to Josef Wallner and Elfriede Wallner (nee Fletzberger) on May 25, 1941. My father was killed on May 24,1941. He was an unterofficer in the Luftwaffe. My mother married an American serviceman, Henry George Streckfus, who brought my mother and I to Baltimore,Maryland - his home town. I was subsequently adopted and my name was changed to Joseph (no middle name) Streckfus. Mom corresponded with her father Rupert Fletzberger in Austria and Rosina Kochli in Zurich, Switzerland
