I am searching for my uncle (born at Rowan Memorial Hospital) who was given up at birth. He was born to Alva Priscilla Gabar(d) Poole who lived in Spencer, NC during that time. He was born January 26 in 1955 at 10 a.m.. My father (his half brother)was 11 at the time and remembers having to stay with his aunt Dot at the time and being told about the baby boy. His father's first name was Carlton Dudley smith and was from St. Louis, MO. But, at the time my uncle's mother was or had been married to John (Buck) Poole and may have given that name or spelled her name Gabard. I don't know what the boy's name was (Baby Boy Smith) or if he was named or just given away. My father (his half brother) and my mother have searched for 10 years. The boy would be in his early 50's now and my mother thinks she saw him once and thought it was my dad, so family resemblence would be evident. Blue eyes and dark brown hair are family traits. We all have terrible sinus problems and high blood pressure, which seems to run on that side of the family. My uncle's grandparents lived in Mocksville, NC (where I grew up) and were Gabards (not sure if that is spelled correctly) and my uncle's mother went by Alva. My father says he remembers they lived in or near Spencer, NC (the address I have is 1100 Salisbury St., Spencer, NC) in Rowan County. This is as much as I am able to find for now. I would love to know my uncle, He was 3 half brothers and twin half sisters and a herd of nieces and nephews who would just like to meet him and welcome him (only if he wants, though) into the family.
I would appreciate any help if you know anything or even a hint at this. I will attach a recent photo of my dad, who is said to resemble his long lost brother, given away at birth. Thank you so much,
Mary
