Edna Lee - She was a WAC probably in Arkansas (1944-1945). She gave birth to my mother (Barbara Joe Lee) on 8/11/45 in Pulaski County,Arkansas. Barbara was 8lbs 3oz. at birth. Edna was 21 yrs old at the time of my mother's birth. She had been a member of the WAC for a year before being discharged b/c of the pregnancy. She worked as a nurse's aide in the hospital in an army camp. She was one of 3 children (older brother and a younger sister). Edna completed the 10th grade. Edna's mother died in 1944 of a heart attack. Edna's father owned land outside of Arkansas. He raised corn, cotton and tobacco. Edna's father has asthma and a bad heart. There is no history of insanity, tuberculosis or cancer in the family. Edna was about 5'5", medium brown hair, dark brown eyes and dark complexion with unusually pretty teeth. She was neat in uniform. The birth father was not aware of the pregnancy. Edna did not wish that anyone in her home community know of the pregnancy. Edna trained for 2 years in a hospital outside the state of Arkansas.
The birth father was in the army when Edna met him. They were stationed together in the same camp. His residence was outside the state of Arkansas, his people were also farming people and their reputation was also good and substantial. Edna described him as rather short in height with dark hair and eyes. |
