I am looking for information about my adopted grandmother Agnes. I am looking for a notice placed in local newspapers in Lewiston Idaho, Nez Perce county. The notice was about an orphaned 4-year old girl available for adoption. We think that the 4-year old girl's name was Agnes. (her last name could have been Benson or Anthony, not sure about this). Her family might have been from Washington state. We have two stories; After Agnes’s mother died, her father left her with her mother’s friend and her father never returned for her. We think that the family that was taking care of her might have been the Ryan family. Or, the father came to town and gave her to the local priest and asked the priest to find a family to adopt Agnes. No one came forward to adopt her. There may have been a second newspaper article announcing that a priest at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church gave the girl to Leon and Delphine Le Quime and they adopted her. The priest that gave Agnes to the Le Quime family was Father Chiapa. (not sure about how to spell his name). Agnes was born about 1902 and adopted (we think) maybe in 1906 at age 4. I have searched records at St. Stanislaus and did not find any information about her adoption |
