Clifford Kinney and his wife lost their lives in a tragic fire in the Stanton / St. Clair, Mo. area in 1941. Their young daughter, Naomi, survived and was later adopted by the doctor who cared for her. Mrs. Kinney, son, Eldon Phillips, had died as a result of an auto accident and his funeral was earlier in the day before the fire. Nothing is known of Kinney's parents. He was well educated but was known as "Indian Joe" and operated a Rock Curio Shop on old Route 66. I am a local historian and am in touch with the daughter who was adopted. Both she and I would like to know if anyone can place Clifford "Cliff" Kinney in their family tree. There were no obituaries because no one was left who could provide information. A hired man, John Vaughn, 71, ran from the burning home with the child, who was actually on fire. There are no photographs. |
