Non-Identifying Information Letter in search for my birth parents.
"Your birth mother first came to see us(Catholic Family & Child Service Diocese of Yakima) in May 1963. She had a rather unusual first name. She had three birth children from a previous marriage to a man named Leo. Her three children, who were 19, 17, and 15 years old at the time, were living with Leo's mother. She did not want them to know about her pregnancy.
Your mother had been living for 5 years with her common law husband, Pat.
When he found out that she was pregnant, he left her. The birth certificate read that the father was unknown, however, in another place in your file, it indicates that your birth father was 37 years old at the time of your birth.
Your birth mother was 40 years old at the time of your delivery. She was described as being of an average build and only 5 feet one inch tall. She had a medium complexion with brown eyes and black hair. She had a 10th grade education and had worked as a nurse's aide. She was of Indian and French ethnicity. Your mother was Catholic and wanted her child placed in a Catholic home.
Your birth father was of German, Mexican and Indian ancestry. He was 5-foot-11 inches, of average build. He had reddish, brown hair, hazel eyes and fair skin. He had a 6th grade education and worked as a farm laborer.
There does not appear to be any history of illness on either side of the family. Your mother had some "bladder trouble" during her pregnancy. It also mentions that your mother had moderate obesity, though it does not mention her weight. She also mentions that a few weeks before delivering, she cut her arm and had to have stitches. She had too much to drink and had fallen and cut herself. The record mentions that there was no history of epilepsy, hemophilia, psychosis or any diagnosed mental health issues. This is the only health information in your file.
Your birth mother gave birth on September 12, 1963 to a healthy baby boy who weighed 8 pounds, 7 3/4 oz, and was 20 and a half inches long. You were released from the hospital on September 16th and placed with foster parents. You were a healthy baby, but at the age of one month, developed a rash on your face. The doctor thought it was a heat rash. You also had a tendency to hold your head back and to the left. There was no tightness or torticollis noticed. The doctor said that you might have this to a degree as you grow up. You were an enchanting, happy baby and were nicknamed "Happy” as our agency tried to locate an adoptive family for you. You were placed in your adoptive home in July 1964.
It appears that it was difficult for your birth mother to place you for adoption. She asked to see you after going to court for the relinquishment. She was happy that you were well and healthy but then began to feel guilty for relinquishing you. She had many regrets about placing you for adoption, but realized that she couldn't care for you. Two weeks after your birth, the caseworker saw your birth mother on the street, and noticed that she looked clean, neat and perky."
Dr. Bruce Hudson examined me on October 14, 1963 and again on December 17, 1963.
Birth weight: 8 pounds, seven and three quarters oz.
Birth length: 20 and a half inches
I found out today (5.4.08) that my birth father was Patrick L. Dorrance. He died September 20th, 1968 in East Wenatchee.
