ISO birth mother or father. I was left as a newborn in a stranger's car at Mansfield General Hospital on or about 15 Apr 1948 with certain items for baby care. A note was left stating that my name was Wendell Stevens. A "Foundling" certificate of birth was issued in Richland County, Ohio and I was placed in the care of children's services for a short time. I was subsequently adopted in either Richland or Marion County Ohio prior to 1950. The record and name "Wendell Stevens" was expunged from Ohio birth records in either 2000 or 2001. To my knowledge, the only record of my birth was a short newspaper article in the Mansfield paper in April 1948 noting the unusual nature of the birth, the Foundling certificate, and adoption papers. Everyone I know with personal knowledge of this event (parents, aunts, uncles) is deceased. |
