I'm looking for information on any Cooper family, supposedly from Alabama. My father's biological father was named Virgil Stanley Cooper, born abt. 1905/6. He had a sister Dora May (Funderburke) and another named Zazelle. He had at least one other sibling. Also, he had two sons from his first wife (name unknown), and more children by my grandmother, Bernice (Hans, Oliver) Cooper, with those children listed as being her husband's on the birth certificate (he was Ray C. Oliver). I'm most interested in finding information on Virgil's parents. His mother was full blood Cherokee, and his father of unknown Caucasian origin. His mother remarried, and I don't know what happened to the first husband. His last name should be Cooper, but that's the best I can do now. I have a picture of his mother and her second husband, maybe around the 1920's judging by their clothing. Virgil worked in concrete, and this may have been a family business. Currently I have a lot of educated guesses, but no firm information. There may be a Holt family involved somewhere, but I'm not sure where.
Any information would be appreciated. I just found this branch of my family after years of searching (thanks again to Betsi Westling, my adoption search angel), and I'm chomping at the bit to put the pieces of my heritage together. Virgil's father and mother are the last pieces to the puzzle. |
