Surname(s):

BURNS : CLARK : EVERETT : MATHIESON : MCCALLUM

Query Text:

I am desperately searching for relatives of my father. He was adopted out when he was young and so they may not even know he exists. Dad was born Albert Mathieson on 11 December 1933 in Nairn, Scotland, to a Barbara Merchant Mathieson (b 1911) and Herbert Clark (b 1912). They later went on to have another child Barbara Isabella Burns Clark (or Mathieson) on 27 December 1940. On 25 August 1946 Barbara Senior gave birth to another son, Walter (although we think his father is a Walter McCallum). Barbara and Herbert were married at St Andrews Church in Glasgow, 29 December 1939 or 1940; Anabella Clark from Lennoxtown was a witness at this ceremony. Barbara Merchant Mathiesons parents were Donald Mathieson, a shepherd from Dundee and his wife Marjory Mathieson. Dad was subsequently adopted by Agnes and Charles Everett and renamed William Alexander Everett (we believe Agnes was related to the Burns family but not sure). They lived in Glasgow and subsequently moved to Saltcoats. Official date of adoption was 20 May 1941. For unknown reasons they put Dad into Whittingehame school, a school for wayward boys in East Lothian in 1943 where he stayed until he joined the merchant navy around 17 years of age. This may also be a cousin – Gordon Edward Clark, b 07 June 1942, of 28 Thureton Road, Glasgow (Mother – Elizabeth McKeown Clark, formerly Simpson, nee Mathieson?? Again – not sure).
